What Year Was I Born?

Know your age? Reverse it: enter your current age and find the year you were born.

The answer depends on whether your birthday has passed this year — both options are shown below.

Enter an age between 1 and 120 to see the birth year

From age back to birth year

Age maps to two possible birth years, because your birthday may or may not have passed this year. Enter your age and the calculator shows both candidates — and tells you which one applies if your birthday has already passed.

For example: if you are 25 and your birthday has passed this year, you were born in the current year minus 25. If it hasn't, subtract 26 — you are still 25 in completed years but were born a year earlier.

Why the off-by-one matters

Forms and trivia quizzes usually want the single right answer. The rule is simple: your birth year = current year − age − (0 if your birthday already passed this year, else 1). The tool applies it against your local date, so "this year" is wherever you actually are.

Frequently asked questions

What year was I born if I'm 25?

Enter 25 above: if your birthday has already passed this year, you were born in current-year-minus-25; otherwise one year earlier. The tool shows both numbers clearly.

How do I find someone's birth year from their age?

The same rule works for anyone: current year minus their age, then minus one more if their birthday hasn't happened yet this year.

Does this work for ages in months, like babies?

For babies under one, the birth year is simply the current year or one before, depending on the month. The years-months-days calculators on this site handle that case precisely.
